The type of latrine that is built in any given context will depend on:\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003C\/ol\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EThe preferences of the community.\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHow much space the community has.\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EThe soil type and how close the water in the ground is to the surface (the water table).\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EThe location of water sources (the distance between containment facilities and water sources should be at least 30 metres, and the bottom of pits should be at least 1.5 metres above the groundwater table).\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EThe number of people who will use the latrine(s).\u003C\/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHow often the faeces should be removed. All latrines should have a place close by to wash hands.
